Prof. T. K. Datta is an alumnus of B.E. College, Shibpur, now known as IIEST Shibpur. His interests of research are in the general area of Structural Dynamics covering wide ranging fields like Earthquake Engineering, Wind Engineering, Offshore Dynamics, Structural Control and Stability of Dynamic Systems. During his teaching and research career, he was credited with 48 PhD guidance, publication of more than 200 international journal papers. He is the author of the book “Seismic Analysis of Structures” published by John Wiley International.
He had significantly contributed to the educational development program as a QIP coordinator and coordinator for the up-gradation of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Kathmandu from a Polytechnic to a UG level college and then, to a Post Graduate Institute. He had also been an active consultant to many big projects on structures on behalf of IIT Delhi.
He was internationally well known for his work in the area of Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. He was the Dynamics core group member of the Engineering Mechanics Division of ASCE from 2002-2008. He was the city representative of Delhi for the world mega cities project RADIUS for Seismic Hazard, coordinated by the Stanford University, USA.
Amongst different awards received by him, the most notable one was the “15th Khwarizmi International Award” for his research work in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Control. He was also the recipient of “the Lifetime Achievement Award for Dynamics” in the Indian Structural Engineering Convention of 2022. He also received “Honor the Mentor” award offered to only twelve faculty members in the 50 years of existence of IIT-Delhi at its Golden Jubilee Celebration. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering.
